Air Fryer Apple Chips (Print version)

Sweet cinnamon-spiced apple chips made crisp and golden using hot air cooking method.

# What You Need:

→ Apples

01 - 2 large apples (Fuji or Honeycrisp variety), washed and cored

→ Cinnamon Sugar

02 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
03 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

→ Optional

04 - Olive oil spray or nonstick cooking spray

# Directions:

01 - Wash, core, and thinly slice apples to approximately 1/8-inch thickness. Peel is optional and may be retained for texture.
02 - Combine granulated sugar and ground cinnamon in a small bowl, stirring until evenly distributed.
03 - Lightly coat air fryer basket with cooking spray if additional crispness is desired.
04 - Layer apple slices in a single layer within the air fryer basket, working in batches as needed to avoid overcrowding.
05 - Distribute cinnamon sugar mixture evenly across all apple slices using a light sprinkling motion.
06 - Set air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and cook for 7 to 8 minutes until slices begin to golden.
07 - Carefully flip each apple slice and return to air fryer for an additional 5 to 7 minutes until golden and crisp. Monitor frequently to prevent over-browning.
08 - Transfer cooked chips to a wire rack, allowing them to cool completely. Chips will continue to crisp as they cool.
09 - Process remaining apple slices using the same procedure in additional batches.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • They're genuinely crispy without any guilt about deep frying, and you can eat a whole batch without feeling like you've overdone it.
  • The air fryer does all the work while you do something else, and the cinnamon sugar coating feels like a small indulgence that's actually just fruit and spice.
02 -
  • The chips aren't done when they come out of the air fryer; they finish crisping on the cooling rack, so resist the urge to eat them straight away even though it's tempting.
  • Uniform slicing is everything here—thicker pieces stay chewy while thin ones become crispy, so invest five minutes in using a mandoline if you have one.
03 -
  • Don't skip the wire rack cooling step—it's when the magic actually happens, as the residual heat and airflow dry out the last bit of moisture and create that shatter-when-you-bite-it texture.
  • If your air fryer runs hot, start checking at the 6-minute mark on the second side rather than waiting the full time; every air fryer has its personality.
